Clinical Decision Dynamics Study

Human Values Project

🧠
Human Values Project

The Human Values Project (HVP) is an international research initiative exploring how artificial intelligence systems can align with human values in medical decision-making. Led by Dr. Isaac Kohane at Harvard Medical School, this effort is currently in its foundational phase.

The Clinical Decision Dynamics Study explores how clinicians and advanced artificial-intelligence models weigh complex medical choices—such as deciding which of two patients should be seen first—when time and information are limited. By comparing human experts' triage judgments with those generated by state-of-the-art large language models, we aim to understand where people and AI align, where they diverge, and how decision-making can be safely "tuned" to reflect real-world clinical values.
